Red and Gold Nepali Green Tara Statue

Born from a tear of the Boddhisatwa of Compassion, she is Tara, the One Who Saves. Her roots come from the mother-goddess cults born from the Buddhis Mahayana religion. Her role was expanded and evolved in India and she later became an important goddess in the Mahayana pantheon. She is a revered goddess in Nepal and Tibet.

Tara is the protector of human beings as they cross the ocean of existence. Her compassion and desire to eliminate suffering are said to outshine the love that a mother feels for her own children. She is associated with the blue lotus that she carries in her left hand. She is not without the capacity for menace in her protector role, in this mood she is seen as red, yellow or blue. When her skin is white or green, she is in a gentle and compassionate state. This is similar to the duality of Shiva's wife.
