Stone Finish Sleeping Buddha Statue

In his last earthly moments when he give his final instructions to his twelve disciples the Buddha knew of his own approaching death and directed his disciples to prepare a couch for him in a grove. There he laid down on his right side and faced the west, his head propped in his own hand. After he completes his speech to his followers, he laid back in a reclined position and passed on into Nirvana.

The statue of the Reclining Buddha should not evoke any sadness. It is meant to encourage us that all creatures have the potential to attain an enlightened state and be released from suffering. This antique red statue gives us a serene Buddha who is accepting of his fate and ready to embrace the great beyond.
